I've been doing them recently and it's been making my day so much more productive. It's just a simple 20 minute nap with an alarm and I feel refreshed afterwards.

My naps are a minimum of 1 hour and it totally fucks up the rest of my day. I try to avoid them, but with a baby that refuses to sleep, naps are unavailable.
I sleep for 20 minutes. If I sleep for over an hour, I'd feel horrible. But when I feel tired, I just quickly set a 20 minute timer and take a break. Almost always works.
EDIT: I think it has to do with sleep cycles or some weird thing. If you ever dream in your naps, they're being done wrong.
This is often the way when you first start napping, but if you try and have one every day, you will find that the time you need drastically reduces. Sometimes I wake up after 15 minutes absolutely convinced that I've had a good few hours and feeling very refreshed.
I've read papers that seem to say humans evolved to sleep in little chunks throughout the day and night. I would speculate that had something to do with keeping a fire going constantly, but who knows.
Supposedly up until the industrial revolution, it was common to sleep part of the night, wake up and eat/smoke/fuck, then take a small nap until dawn.
And to those who are saying that they can't nap, its because you have to create a schedule. If you took an hour nap every day at the same time, your body would quickly adjust to sleeping less at night.
It takes me over an hour to fall asleep...so naps are usually not on the menu. If I do manage one, it's like 3 hours and it pretty much wrecks the rest of my day.
I am a master at power naps and they are the best things ever. I appreciate them more as an adult than I ever did as a kid. But I can say that about spanking too.
I used to nap more often and found it useful. I suspect extended naps are counterproductive while short naps can be refreshing.
