Edit: It appears The Hill quote below is modified, strangely replacing "you" with "we". Here's the correct, original statement directed at "you". It doesn't change the poor taste of the quote or the problem with it, but it is in fact the original White House statement. Not sure why The Hill so blatantly misquoted to give it a slightly more sympathetic tone. All these edits make it look like something funny is up, but really I'm just trying to make sure we get the right quote and properly attributed. It looks like the WH may have issued several similar statements, all to the same effect but with slightly different wording each time.

Context

"For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death... for themselves, their families and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm," Biden continued. "But there's good news. If you're vaccinated, and you have your booster shot, you’re protected from severe illness and death, period."

Lies, fear, and divisiveness--what a great leader!

Please can you point out the lies in that quote.

Sure, they're all over the place.

  1. Unvaccinated are looking at death. We have really good statistics on this now two years in. Plenty of unvaccinated are at statistically zero risk of death and severe illness. If you're 80+ and obese, you should indeed be worried because you probably have like a 50% chance of death. If you're 55 and obese, you might be worried too. If you're 20 and healthy, you absolutely not are at risk of death or severe illness by any reasonable standard.
  2. "If you're vaccinated, and you have your booster shot, you’re protected from severe illness and death, period." Obviously false and situation dependent again. An 80+ boosted adult is at more of severe illness and death than the healthy, 20 year-old unvaxed.

His statement is self-contradictory if you look at the data by risk category. How many lies are there come down to how you define things like "risk" or "severe", but there is tautologically at least one.

You appear to have misinterpreted the statement the statement completely.

Plenty of unvaccinated are at statistically zero risk of death and severe illness

That is just wrong.

"If you're vaccinated, and you have your booster shot, you’re protected from severe illness and death, period."

This statement you have presented as a quote but it's something you made up.

tl;dr you're an idiot.

Trump's not President, and he didn't make this absurd announcement, so he doesn't get the blame. Any time the current President does something that sucks, the reply can't be "But Trump!" We need good leadership, period.

Incidentally, all the people and attention talking about how much Trump sucks got him elected. He thrives on controversy and attention. So if you think he's awful, the very best thing you should do is don't bring him up. Don't feed the trolls.
