I like how being against socialism just makes you "far right" these days

That whole far right thing is a joke made up by the media. Are there far right or alt-right factions ... of course ... but the new MSM norm is to label anyone to the right of center, even a centralist, as some right wing nut job. Meanwhile, anyone from a mild leftist to antifa/serious communist/socialist is a normal, middle of the road good guy. Words matter, and they know it.

I was always very libertarian left, but a populist/nationalist. That makes me a Nazi now to be nationalist. I've now changed and I'm pretty hardcore conservative. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I can't support these communists trying to destroy our country

Yeah, I guess this shows how far our education system has gone to the left and dumbed down society as a whole.

The only thing negative that I've read about him, not that I've read a whole lot, is something about mining the rain forest.

I don't consider myself an environmentalist wackjob, but I do feel we need to approach such things cautiously.

I've not heard that, but it's definitely a good thing to bring up. Brazil has a lot more issues than rain forest preservation right now though.

I agree.

It looks like there might a little meat to the claim, but after reading this it seems like much of it is butt hurt over him wanting out of the Paris Accord.

The main problem in brazil is corruption, not communism, socialism, far right, consrvative or whatever political rethoric anyone is spouting. It's Just plain old widespread corruption!

How are we to know when a real problem is arising when everything is labeled as the end...

Yup, absolutely everything in the last few years has been literally Armageddon. What happens when the boy cries wolf too many times?

Bolsonaro is pretty far right though. At least in talk. He's super pro-christian, supposedly spoke fondly of Brazil's past military dictatorship, not very big fan of gays, anti affirmative action, ect.

All of which is better for Brazil than communism, but it seems to me Brazil just picked the better brand of authoritarian. I could be wrong though, time will tell.

You're not wrong. He does seem to be the "rule by a heavy hand" sort of guy. I think that's the only way they will break out of their communist regime though. You can't just go "oh hey fuck this communism regime" one day and expect that to work. I don't think this will be peaceful, but it's probably for the best

[–] Sarcastaway 1 points (+1|-0)

I mean, its not like Brazil is the most peaceful place as it is. And considering the situation in Venezuela, I think this is probably their best shot at breaking free of that path. I just hope the people of Brazil get some freedom back, rather than trading more of it away for perceived security.

Was about to say the same thing. But two can play this game, dishonest media.

Brazil has been under a Marxist-Lenninist communist regime for years with Lula and Rousseff. Maybe it's time for a government that isn't controlled by Trotskyites and doesn't send its own citizens to gulags for those who do not meet their Stakhanovite work quotas?

I truly expect Brazil to be hit with some huge UN sanctions soon because they aren't playing by the rules anymore. There could possibly be a war there soon. The UN doesn't look kindly upon nations that rise up against corruption

[–] CDanger 1 points (+1|-0)

The UN does the shittalking and the IMF does the dirty work.
