I think if he'd complied with the officer's first requests that this wouldn't have escalated.

The way he kept swinging his right arm around, digging around in the car, was making me nervous. The cop didn't have his gun drawn until he started doing that.

He was clearly nervous and scared. There's no training or rehearsal for civilians when dealing with police. He was accused of passing s fraudulent check, a very non violent crime. That he has not been convicted of.

As far as he knows, he got pulled over for no reason. And was likely reaching for his wallet and registration, as you do during a traffic stop. Then immediately he has a gun shoved in his face.

From there it looks to me like he had a full blown panic attack. Cops are less than worthless when dealing with mental health issues.

All of this aside, George Floyd did not deserve to die.

Just a quick note:

Floyd wasn't pulled over by police, he was sitting in the parked car. The police came after the store called about the fake $20, he was still at the scene sitting in the driver's seat acting erratic.

Initially I was of the opinion that they should have just written him a ticket and let him go but after seeing this I can see that they couldn't let someone in that state drive away (he was on fentanyl and meth according to the autopsy report, as a cop you can't let someone drive around on that stuff).

Lots of things were handled completely wrong however with this footage you can see how things escalated giving a more clear picture of the incident.

yeah, this whole encounter was all over the place and stressful just to watch even though I knew what was going to happen. I could never deal with that as my day job.

I think you are being disingenuous.

Would you have advised George to do any of the things that he decided to do on that day?

I feel this doesn't really fit the narrative we've been given. If the dude would've shut the fuck up and listened for a little bit then everything would've been fine. His mouth never stopped moving, he never stopped talking. He resisted every step of the way. He was unable to follow directions. It shouldn't have gone the way it did.

The officers should've tried to calm him down and tried to get him to stop talking like you would with an upset toddler. They needed to be in control of the situation and they tried to do it with words and physical force, and that wasn't the right approach. He devolved to a child-like state, but still had the body of a grown man.

He was saying he couldn't breathe as soon as the cuffs went on. He said it the whole time. It's a hard claim to take seriously in a situation like that. He wouldn't have ended up on the ground if he had just sat in the damn car instead of going through it. It's not particularly comfortable, but they were going to strap him in and even roll down the windows so he could've had more air. He would have been safe.

Everybody sucks here, it shouldn't have gone the way it did but it did.
