- No memes or images. Exceptions may be made in the case of images of an ongoing news story becoming available.
- User-edited titles are not allowed. Copy the headline directly and use it as the post title.
- News articles written over a month before posting must have the date of the article in the post title.
- No social media/blog/YouTube links. Exceptions may be made if information about an unfolding news story/crisis emerges on Twitter, for example, or if it is the official account of a news source.
- No paywalls. Use an archived link to post a paywalled article.
- Translate non-English articles.
- This is not a hard rule, but please be civil.
We had a small discussion about it ages ago with a little feedback but no rules were made. I took some of the feedback and made this rough draft.
Most modern news sites have a "/opinion/" or something similar in the url if its an opinion piece. Those are the kinds of posts that should go in /s/punditry. From the sidebar:
So there is some lenience with the stuff you can post there. News sources are always going to have slants, there's not a great deal we can do about that. Whilst the flair idea should be doable, I don't think it's going to be a good idea in the long run because it just encourages segregation of sources and downvoting/not looking at sources based on whether or not it fits your viewpoint. I do not think this is an issue now, because people here are pretty reasonable, but in the future it could be.
