I wonder if anyone will answer honestly. The thinnest pretext is mine. @Smallpond @boukert @kfcnyancat
Non violent people don't own weapons and think that others(Police,Military, etc) will protect them. They expect safety to be others responsibility.
Seeing as you mentioned me in the OP I think I should interject and say that I actually believe that the police are the people most likely to try and kill me. Ideally, they'd protect me, but probably not. I also think the military kills too many innocents, just not people like ME (Americans or other Westerners.)
The only reason I don't own weapons is because I'm highly fucked up mentally and don't want to use weapons on impulse.
Interesting, owning weapons has little to do with being a violent person in my eyes - though it could be a political stance. I'd like to own a couple of rifles one day when I'm in a position to go hunting regularly.
I think a violent person is someone who is likely to initiate violence, perhaps because they can't control their temper, or because they enjoy/romanticize violence, or perhaps just because they spend each day drowning in negative emotions that make them want to lash out.
I'm interested in your definition of a non-violent versus a violent person? It's not clear to me.
There are probably many conditions under which I'd take someone's life. It's easy to contrive simple situations where it would be obviously justified. For the not-so-simple situations I have no idea exactly how I'd react.
I do wonder if you're ex-military..
