Interesting, owning weapons has little to do with being a violent person in my eyes - though it could be a political stance. I'd like to own a couple of rifles one day when I'm in a position to go hunting regularly.
I think a violent person is someone who is likely to initiate violence, perhaps because they can't control their temper, or because they enjoy/romanticize violence, or perhaps just because they spend each day drowning in negative emotions that make them want to lash out.

Non violent people don't own weapons and think that others(Police,Military,etc) will protect them. They expect safety to be others responsibility.
