Religion says more about people than religions. I was saying that I thought the mixing aspect was common.
The cargo cults are curious. I wonder if it is more oral tradition than being like religion as most would recognize it. Maybe in another 500 years, with the proper circumstances, we could be worshiping Adm Halsey.
If you go back to oral traditions, let's say druids/storytellers in Ireland way back in history, they had all kinds of power, right? They could sing a song or make a story of the king who granted great hospitality to them as they traveled. This made them a wise, powerful, gracious, and wealthy king. But if they turned them away, they were mean, stingy, poor, or cruel. The power was in the oral tradition and what that druid/leader/storyteller said about you made you or broke you.
Voodoo, Hoodoo, Santeria do indeed steal from Christianity, yes. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s normal. I mean there’s cargo cults so that says something about people more than religions.
