You should hear a barred owl when you're just chilling on the porch and it starts into its other calls that aren't hoots. It'll make the hairs on your neck stand up the first few times you hear it, especially when it's midnight and you're tired. Sounds like a damn banshee.

cool. first time I heard a bobcat I thought it was a woman calling "HELP" at the top of her lungs. we were just outside fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada and it was pretty damn freaky until I learnt what the source was

weird dude. This is the GTA (greater toronto area) there's about 3 million throughout here. I heard this bugger before I saw him. check out the end of this clip. I thought it was an eagle because he was so close and he shrieked pretty hard a few times while calling out. Weird how he has such different pitch. I've been feeding the bluejays around here I have them return my call and land on my balcony but this fucker was odd AF. I got a lot closer and tried to get a pic but my bus came.
Sidenote: when I got closer he made a weird repeated sound like the oooo of a Cardinal's main call (about half way through their sound clip.. the OOOoOOO..) like a warning as we watched eachother for about 3 seconds. I've fed Cardinals so it's weird recognizing that pitch. damn cool owl imo
