I spent years on Voat, until the cancerous racists made it so nasty that I gave up.

I just spent a week over on Poal, and those shrieking cancerous racist idiots are bent on being noticed (and, of course, never getting disagreed with, and if you do, they'll flood your inbox and notices and downvote everything, because that's how civilized discussion occurs), and so I'm probably giving up there, too.

While I don't mind racist idiots being on a platform, is there a way to block the persistently irritating ones here?

Welcome!

You can block subs and prevent people from pinging your inbox when they reply to a post/comment you created or @ you. Hard blocking might come in the future

When you get a notification, there's a "block" button next to the reply/permalink/delete buttons
