I guess it could be done that way, but image uploads would start costing the site more over a long period of time, that's why all of the icons are font based.

i appreciate the dedication to efficiency but i think strictly thinking long term for a project with mere months of funding is foolish. unpopular, underutilized, and inefficient features can always be turned off but allowing a captivated user base to slip through your fingers is voat's doom. more ought to be done to differentiate phuks from reddit and voat, particularly in ways that make a user want to contribute without punishing them for lurking.

I agree. It is basically a clone at this point, with nothing that really separates Phuks from either of them. Polsaker had a great idea for IM between users to replace PM's, which is a unique feature on any aggregator site as far as I know. Proposed changes to the voting system and different ways to deal with moderators, plus the proposed hierarchy system could be a way to set Phuks apart from the crowd. And all of those things would have minimal impact on the actual performance of the site.

those ideas may have minimal impact on performance but they have no impact on encouraging and expanding visible use. if anything they discourage use by bringing more of the site behind the scenes and/or making things more ambiguous. i'm not saying this badge idea is good but if those are the key features we're looking at, we'll be back on voat or reddit in 6 months. new features need to focus on content creation, not convoluted ways to organize the site.

there's not enough content to bother organizing it differently. theres not enough users who arent willing to use irc for an IM system to be worth the time. modifications to voting and mods will definitely turn some users off to the site, whichever way we go.
