This is related to @FhilaFerret 's post here.

Sometimes I'm keen to listen to a sample of the phuks playlist, and it would be convenient to be subscribed 'just' to all the music subs.

At other times I'm just reviewing the more factual-based current affairs posts, and it'd be great to just be subscribed to just s/Technology s/Science s/News etc..

I also like browsing /all/new to see all the odd things people are posting, but the music does get in the way, especially when people are on a posting run. Hence it would be good to block all the music subs and see everything else.

It would be great if one day I could choose from a user-defined list of two types of 'views': one type based on /all/ excluding some specified subs, and another type that involves viewing nothing but a list of specified subs.

We used to have tags for subs so they could be sorted in multis like this. The only issue is they were not really curated in any way, so we ended up with hundreds of them that made no sense. It is possible to view posts in a multi, but you have to add them all manually in a URL and it's not really very convenient.

I would like to bring some form of sub tagging back, or at least something that fixes this issue. I think redesigning the sub bar so it is actually functional could also play a part in this too, we could have some form of customisable multi shit up there.

Edit: maybe broader tags like video/text/image would be nice too.

Curation or sorting of subs sounds too hard if you're trying to be systematic or complete about it from the top. Users will do a lot of the grouping themselves, and being able to share their multis with others would be a lot of fun.

By curation, I didn't necessarily mean admin curation, although I would like admins to have the ability to edit the groupings in case someone starts going apeshit with it. Perhaps we could have tag mods or something, or some kind of popularity based thing like Steam has where x amount of people grouping a sub into a tag would make it show up in that tag.

Are you talking about what you are "subscribed" to?

No, there is a url trick. I can't remember how to type it out but @pembo can tell you.

for multis via url, you can use the "/m/" instead of "/s/" (not capital letter sensitive): https://phuks.co/m/Technology+Science+news

We had a way to save lists of subs before, but it didn't get ported over to the new front end a few months ago. It might be time to resurrect it.

Thanks. I should probably remember that from months past...

If you could tweak that so users could also do something like

https://phuks.co/m/all-Music-PaddysPub

my wish would be essentially granted.

I've been guilty of going on a music tear more than once and never meant to annoy anyone with it. Something like a temporary setting one can click to remove a broad range of subs would be pretty cool. It's settings could reside in a temporary cookie. Something like -music -politics -weebos -anime etc.

we use the + sign and "/m/" for multis - https://phuks.co/m/Technology+Science+news

we might be able to do a sort for the minus sign for like a /all/new minus those subs

That would actually be cooler. It's usage might elude the average user though. Netflix has a series of sorting urls they don't advertise that are pretty cool like if you only want to see "Alien Sci-Fi). Maybe a page w/ shortcuts to popular customizable views. Nvm, that seems like it would be clutter. I love how intuitive and simple this place is.

As others have mentioned before, in the past we've been spoilt by the ability to browse /all/new/ and pretty much keep up with everything posted. As Phuks grows that will become impractical, but having smart browsing tools could help.

I wouldn't suggest that people refrain from posting runs of music when the mood takes them: avoiding those runs wouldn't solve anything in the long run anyway.
