When replying to the 2017 finance report (4 months old) the comment will not submit. I assume it is because it is old but no such feedback is given.
My idea I was posting there:
It would be cool to know what the cost of running the site / http request is.
I've always wanted to know what I cost a website just for the sake of curiousity.
That's way less than voat. You should optimize while you still can.
But one idea I had for voat is if the number of http requests your account generated was counted and then a "bill" was suggested based on it.
I've been thinking a lot about how we should really want to pay for things, especially in a prorated way, because the alternative is almost always second best in some way.
That's a great idea for voat and phuks, it no longer makes sense if they want to turn a profit though. wikipedia, politicians, or npr personalities asking middle class people for money when they are making millions is a bit cruel, but i would have no problem supporting server bills and modest living expenses (at the same level as mine or lower) for anyone full time on a project, but no way I want to fund anyone to live a better life than me.
Maybe something like "your portion of the month's bills are $14.88, there is $6,000,000 funding that is unpaid for this month" so that we would know what we should pay, and what needs to be paid to keep the sites happy.
I wanted to know how much it cost to keep Voat going. Where was that money coming from?
