Yeah, the heating elements are too close to the racks to use real dishes. I use to use mine mostly to heat small frozen pizzas when I was in college. A frozen pizza was a luxury, then. The rest of the time I used it for toast.

I could not grab the bowl without 2 hot pad silicon thingies. I don't think a few ice cubes would help. I think I need to just Cook the soup, add bread and cheese then toast until it melts and not a second longer
