Immediately after my status update (I think on Voat) about racking the wine, I noticed what I thought were flowers of wine on the surface. Apparently this is common when there is lots of headroom in the fermenting vessel and is caused by oxygen.

Kind of a pain, but I reracked the wine into a smaller container (the 2L bottle) and drank the leftovers. (No it wasn't an excuse to drink, there was little to no alcohol and it is still syrupy sweet.)

It has since started bubbling noticeably so fermentation is underway, though it slows down overnight as the temperature cools.
