You never know with lawyers involved. But it sounds legit and like the pound has basically admitted it screwed up.
This stuff happens way too much, the dog is just doing what dogs do ... defending his territory. Very sad it had to end like this.

When damages are awarded it will have to do with pain and suffering, so it makes sense that they would put on that they are devastated.

These type things don't usually end up with big settlements. If nothing else, hopefully the death of the dog will make a difference for another in the future.

Some dude trespasses in their yard and it's the dog's fault. Fuck that.
I usually get annoyed when people are "destroyed" by the death of a pet. I loved my pets back when I had them, but it's still a dog, not a person. However when they are killed by some bullshit like this it's not cool at all.
Of course part of me thinks they might be playing this up for the lawsuit (don't blame them).
