The closures result in consumers getting back only about half of their nickel and dime deposits on bottles and cans

I had stopped wasting time recycling because it wasn't worth the effort. A decade ago, I'd get around $50/car load of cans, then it started getting around $35/load. The two closest places to me were rePlanets, the next closest is still open but I tried it once and only got around $18. I thought I'd start putting in the effort again, but now I'll be lucky to get $10-$15 for a car load.

The CRV tax hasn't gone down obviously.

hmm, where do all those nickel deposits go if there are no recycling centers.. will they drop it?

No, they would never repeal the tax. Much of the CRV tax funds other initiatives besides reimbursing recycling centers for what they pay to recyclers. There is no set 1:1 reimbursement value, just a minimum per pound payout which is supposed to be approximately 1:1, but the recycling centers can cut the value significantly for many arbitrary reasons (cans too crushed, too much moisture, we don't want certain parts of the cans, etc) and give you shit return.
