LOL - guns, knives, bombs, or arsonists ... you can't solve problems that are indicative of the society we live in by simply passing another law.

Buyers will have to collect in person and retailers must verify they are over 18, in one of series of anti-knife crime measures

Are we sure this isn't an Onion link? Age verification to buy a knife? That's retarded.
An ordinary fixed handle knife is the fastest opening blade that can be purchased. A child can buy one or get one from the kitchen drawer at any time, in my country anyway.

What about a butter-knife? Will child services show up if a child is allowed to use a weapon on their toast?

Knife crime has risen during the last two years after a long-term downward trend. The most recent figures are the highest for five years.

I suggest they look at the hands holding those knives for the cause. I bet there is a trend to be found there.
It is not possible to ban all sharp and/or pointy objects, so it is beyond stupid to waste their effort and resources tilting at a windmill, while ignoring the aspects of the problem that could be changed.

That will be in the next revision of the law: only plastic cutlery for minors. And kitchen drawers must be locked up at all times.

Nah, they'll require knives to be kept locked in safes and require an armed officer to unlock it
