The issue of job loss or even imprisonment is very real in many areas. Employers don't take kindly to politically-minded employees who have opposing views. There are enough governments that either jail or disappear dissenting people that anonymity isn't a joke.

Anonymity protects many from prosecution and persecution. It isn't evil, it's a tool.
