I've always been a bit of a shitposting cunt who likes a bit of shock humour. Some tragedies are easy to make light of and exploit for meme shock.
The Manadlay Bay meme springs to bring.
The CHCH mosque memes feel too soon. I don't mean 'too soon' in a lightheaded sense to be that guy either. It feels genuinely uncomfortable. I thought about saving some, but even that feels wrong.
I've never felt this way about any terror attack. I am honestly shocked that it did happen here. It's a shame to be in a place where that thing didn't happen at all. We've had more terror attacks from the French than from Muslims. I feel like this is the start of something much more worse. Some Jihadi prick is seeking revenge right now, I bet.
It's nice to play devil's advocate and see the best in others and consider the least innocuous interpretation, but Occam's razor should help our interpretation of the fact that all Muslim societies are not peaceful, tolerant, sustainable, or prosperous. Like nearly every religion, there are cancerous and destructive parts of the ideology that should be denounced, but I'm not aware of much positive to come from present Islam and its supporters to balance out the harms.
Is there a single Muslim-majority nation that is a role model (or even acceptable) for the rights of women, gays, minorities, and freedom of expression? Would you want to live in any of those countries? Which values do they follow that the west should adopt? If immigrants from these countries gained increasing numbers and political power, do you expect that they will fully adapt to the customs, values, and culture of western nations or will they seek to bring the destructive practices, infighting, and repression of their homelands to the new host nation? You are very open minded and accepting of them, but how do you honestly believe Muslims view those of us in the west? I'm not trying trying to overwhelm you with these questions and expecting an answer to each of them, but I think you see my point that there is a vast gulf between tolerant societies and Islamic societies, and accepting those who seek to destroy your way of life isn't noble.
Too much time gets wasted in the pointless discussion between the false dilemma of "they're all terrorists" vs "not all Muslims" and misses the obvious truth that there is a lot wrong with Islam, and failing to address and confront this is harmful for a free society.
