I've been doing some research on Reddit clones. Honestly, there really aren't a lot of good ones out there. Voat is probably the best one in terms of how the site is built, and as for the best community I can't really find any that have a decent level of activity.

As far as the general look of the site, Snapzu is probably the best one. It has a light theme that is not blinding, and is easy enough to navigate. I don't like the automatic drop down of text on the posts though. Frizbee comes in a close second. Look familiar to anyone?

PiRoot is full of shit non-content, but it has a couple of nice features, like post tags and the ability to sort posts by "vote strength", which I assume filters content that has a ton of downvotes. I can't tell because there are literally no votes on posts.

By far the most interesting is atob. It is a "real time textboard". Essentially, when you make a thread it makes a chatroom kind of thing instead of having a comments section, which is quite a nice concept.

So how does Phuks compare?

In my opinion, it is considerably better even in its alpha state than basically all of the Reddit clones. The only thing I would suggest is making dark mode the default, rather than light mode, as I am yet to find a single example of a clone that does that. Also let's face it, light mode looks awful.

Phuks already has all of the basic features that it needs, in my opinion, and is probably the best clone aside from Voat. It just doesn't have that thing that sets it apart from the crowd yet.

You cannot easily see your votes. That is a huge part of being a content creator. I need to see what plays. Up and down.

I post shit I see that I'm not interested in cause I think other ppl might like it.

we talked about ways for subs/producers to track sub activity. We are currently NOT running Google or any analytics internally for privacy sake. (Post to /s/IdeasForPhuks and the more specific, the better) Votes are timestamped so a report with waves of votes/subscriptions is definitely possible.

I assume you are on light mode?

Try dark mode, they're much easier to see.

Also there is a new layout currently being made, so any issues in the current one will be addressed in the new one. Hopefully.

For those worried about mobile compatibility,

This might look/work better on mobile platforms, but it's terribly unfinished. And there's only me working on that version of the site, so it'll take a long time before it's finished.

I'll be 100% honest. I like voat more simply because it's easier to start a subverse. I have been on here for a week now probably and i'm not even close to level 5(Level required to make a community)

I get people will just hog subverses if you make it to easy to set one up, but you can always reassign owners no?

That's my only complaint about phuks. Other then that I think it has the best chance out of all the reddit clones.(Not including voat.)

That requirement has been lowered to level 2. You should be able to make a sub.

[–] Mint 3 points (+3|-0)

I didn't even notice that. This is great news and a good decision I think. Level 2 is much more doable. I fell like I was playing World of Warcraft sitting here grinding for upvotes just to make a sub.

yeah, we had like 8 spammer accounts all in one day post about 50 links to the same four domains, and we had a bit of a knee jerk reaction and added the requirement for a few different things.

followup where we reduced it - https://phuks.co/s/changelog/3692

This place seems nice so far. Nice to see you here, PMYA. ^

Hi.

Some things you should probably know:

Turn dark mode on, it looks way better. In your settings, enable experimental features, it will auto-update certain things. Also, you need to go into your settings to opt in for NSFW content.

Ok also it seems like you can't get to albums by clicking a title post. That means it takes to clicks to get to it. That's gonna kill you. No one does two clicks. Immediate satisfaction.

[–] PMYA [OP] 1 points (+1|-0)

This is also something on your end. Albums open in one click using Chrome.

[–] soylentglitter 1 points (+1|-0)

It's not my end boo, this I'd your site. All criticism is constructive from my end. I want to like to use your site but you have some work to do. Don't tell me shit is on my end. I'm on chrome mobil. That's how I generally browse and post. I know my mikehawksragen voat account makes it look like I have no lifear bit I multitask. So it's a on mobil. Make it work.

Do you have an example where this is the case? Because I have no clue what you're talking about.

[–] Crushric 1 points (+1|-0)

I've maybe idea.

Like with a Discord serve, phuks might have a phone app, at least for android. If you get tagged in a post or get a PM or anything along those lines, you can get a ping on your phone. No idea if Reddit itself does this, as I never bothered getting its pone app. Still, it might be a convenience.

[–] PMYA [OP] 1 points (+1|-0)

There are still some problems with viewing phuks on mobile, but I have looked on mobile a couple of times and it is actually better than Voat. That will probably change with the new layout though.

I am not sure if the admins know anything about making android apps. I assume not. We still have issues with various different browsers, without even going into mobile apps.

I guess it would be nice though, rather than having a shitty 3rd party app.

[–] E-werd 0 points (+0|-0)

The problem there is that Phuks doesn't have a full API yet. Nobody can make an app, I've already been thinking of that. :/

It is on the list of things to get done, though, it just kind of requires that Phuks "finalizes" itself structurally so things can stay consistent.

I agree that light mode sucks, and I use dark mode. I've been using Phuks on my mobile only. On my desktop, if I'm spending a lot of time on a site I will use eg Stylish to make it look however I want. Not sure how likely other people are to do that but I think dark mode is a better default.

Phuks still sucks to use on mobile. Voat and Reddit, in compact mode not mobile, are much better.

[–] pembo210 1 points (+1|-0)

It's still pretty light weight and runs with all free/opensource software. I can run a local version in a ubuntu/debian vm on my 3 year old laptop when I wanna test something.

K I just checked in and I have 11 msgs and idk how to check any. Tell your friend to get their shit right

[–] soylentglitter 0 points (+0|-0)

Ok also I had two msgs and I just responded to yours and it tossed me into this thread so now I have to figure out how to get back into my msgs.

[–] soylentglitter 0 points (+0|-0)

Ok and then when I submitted that comment it tossed me back onto the front page. If you want conversation you need to make it easy to find and followable. I would have put this comment on the same string but I can't even find it w/o going to my user page.

Are you using mobile? Because I am using Chrome and replies from my inbox send me to the post page, and replies on the post page load the post page again.
