I'm at my grandfather's funeral today, and literally half the people there were wearing something I thought was completely inappropriate. One dude was wearing a fucking batman T-shirt and fucking jeans. My cousin was in a full blown cowboy get up complete with jeans, flannel, cowboy hat and boots with a giant ass belt buckle. Keep in mind this kid was born and raised in northern Michigan. He hasn't rode a horse a day in his life.

Now I'm not expecting everyone to show up in a suit and tie but to me, jeans are absolutely unacceptable funeral attire.

I've worn jeans and a button-up shirt to a friends funeral, but he was the type who never dressed up a day in his life. He relentlessly mocked me when I got my first white collar job, since I was a total goth/rocker type when we grew up. I can't say I really believe in an afterlife, but that dude would have haunted the shit out of me if I wore the same thing to his funeral that I did to work every day.

Every other funeral has been black shirt, black suit, no tie. Feels weird wearing a silk noose when you're honoring the dead.

There are certain funerals that it is acceptable to go in jeans, like my friends funeral for his biker Dad. But at a catholic church for a 90 year old navy veteran, it's just disrespectful. Even my hippie uncle was able to dress up a bit.
