Something I've been thinking about the past few days is how Phuks is the remaining site of these news aggregates which is morally carrying on the torch of:
Freedom of speech
Fair and just moderation and rules
Transparency
Decent, constructive user base
Admin contact with the community
These are all things Reddit and Voat once stood for. On paper, they still claim to stand for these things but empirically they don't actually execute those ideals.
Reddit has lost to corporatism, selective application of rules, corruption, an indecent user base and "fair speech" as opposed to free speech.
Voat is slightly better, but it's lost to lack of admin contact with the community, transparency to an extent, fair and just moderation, decent constructive user base.
Now, while the user base on these websites are for the most part good people, it's the loud minority that are doing all the damage.
Phuks isn't perfect in regards to freedom of speech, but that's a matter of infrastructure than principle. Since we don't have conversations that really push the boundaries of the server ToS, this isn't an issue, but it has the possibility to be if Phuks were to grow.
I remember having multiple conversations with /u/Boukert about this while Phuks was just merely a sperm. Now that it's actually a working website with a community, I've seen those important ideals executed on this website.
What was originally envisioned for Voat and Reddit, Phuks is now carrying on and EXPANDING upon.
This isn't just a half-wit news aggregate website. This is evolving to be more. I've seen it, I know the future. This isn't skimping on features and stability, which was a massive issue with Voat. This is carrying on the torch, which on those platforms have been inhibited since mid-2016 at most.
This is what Aaron Schwartz and Atko envisioned. Not a cesspit of corporatism and lies like Voat and Reddit.
That reminds me of something I saw a couple of days back on Voat. Everyone is a jew until proven otherwise: https://voat.co/v/ProtectVoat/2655894/13441640
What's ironic here is if I was going to pick someone as a government plant on Voat it would be the type of people who run "free" statistic websites that store posts and comments from Voat on their own server to make them easily searchable(and to sell).
Also the Owner of ProtectVoat down the bottom of that chain who wanted access to posters ip addresses and voting stats so he could make sure no one was a "shill". The same guy who spends most of his waking life on voat himself under various monikers.
