my friend of about 8 years got pulled over for the FIRST time yesterday. He was going 150kmh in a 100kmh zone (highway)

the officer only caught him going 130. So okay, whatever

cop ran his license, car is paid, insurance is paid, yada yada yada. he let him off without a ticket. no court date, no mandatory 7day impound, not even a suspension. 'Drive save, Mr. B'

I get it, my city just had a terrorist attack, and there's murders and gun violence, BUT JESUS CHRIST, COP.

and no, my friend wouldn't tell me the officer's name. for obvious reasons.

meanwhile, me, a caucasian female looking wayy too young for my age, would get tickets for not stopping long enough at a damn stop sign.

i quit.

That's part of the problem. Don't make excuses or try to 'explain'. They will give you a ticket if you do, to make it clear to you that the excuse doesn't cut it.

Just admit the fault and accept responsibility, and don't ask for a break. Make it clear that you know you were in the wrong. Even if you are right.
Smile and apologize.

Trust me, I learned this originally from my mother, who has a lead foot, and I have used/abused it often. She's never paid full price on a ticket either.
It is not possible to argue or explain your way out of a ticket, and attempting to ensures that you will not be let off.

do you mind if I take this quote and use it in my next lesson plan for Small Claims?

I feel stupid for not knowing, but You learn something new everyday!
