I got my quiz back today for my English class (pre-midterm, so she was sitting on her ass for a while), and it was a spelling test-type. my teacher has a thick Swedish accent so its hard to hear her clearly.

where I was supposed to put 'foreign' I put 'faran' because I couldn't fathom what the fuck she was saying.

yolo.

I had a similar problem with taking a foreign language in school. Each year you’d get a new teacher with a different accent and it would screw me.

its a law course, so I don't mind it, but dear GOD. it keeps screwing with me. I had this teacher for a previous course, and it was fine. went on a lot of field trips,

I was upset when I noticed, but now I'm just laughing it off.

what did you take in school?

I took Spanish in high school and then did independent study of French. I can now find the bathroom and the library if left alone in France or Mexico.

my spouse is French. (going on 5years together), and I took French in elementary and high school.

Like you, I only know how to ask to use the bathroom. I can eavesdrop like nobodies business tho. I want to learn more so I can talk shit about people in public.,

I had a similar experience. I was taking French in college and it was the day of the final exam. I was poised to begin as the voice of the head of the French department came through the headphones. The voice was Japanese! Can you imagine how weird French sounds when spoken by someone with a very thick Japanese accent? As I looked around, every face I saw had the same expression: absolute shock and horror.

This reminds me of the time I had an asian client with a thick jamaican accent.
