I don't think he's in a good place really right now. He should take a bit more time to settle himself and only silently work on bugs in the background as a hobby. The bigger problem on the site is the clique of arseholes that has formed that drowns out any free-thinking or anything that goes against the hive.

What I find interesting is that some of the users who used to be very pro privacy have now joined the ranks of saying things like: "I'm not doing anything illegal, so I don't care if the government now runs Voat."

A vast majority of users hated the argument "I'm not doing anything wrong, so the government can be more invasive." Now the majority of comments on the subject are completely reversed.

There's so many alts there it's not funny. Look at that Scandinavian PV sticky where one of the former mods spills what he knew about alts. A year ago that would have caused a giant shitstorm now it's just the in-joke everyone knows about but denies.

Yeah the constant barrage of ill-mannered goats with possible mental health issues to top it off is tiring for even the most dedicated part time enthusiast. :) That's when satire and humor has to step in to release tension for me.

Then there are those with such a smart intellect that vary few understand their humor and it all comes crashing down to silly nit picking of the stupidest thing. It's tightrope act just as a user, one of the reasons I will not resign from v/SBBH, because every time they label and generalize me they just expose themselves as being ignorant peoples.

Anyway as you all are goats gone foxy I thought I would just let you know and all.

Nice to speak to you Mister Killbill and have a good evening :)

I hate to be that guy, but I am that guy. So here are my observations.

1) Canaries don't mean much. They rely on an active system admin that is both unable to be compelled to lie, and willing/able to verify their identity. Better than nothing, but they are not sure-fire.

2) Why does it take months of begging to get someone to click the edit button and hit save to update a canary?

3) Does editing without adding a statement legally constitute a declaration of free will that the contents are true?

4) "We" in the context of the account "Voat" is ambiguous.

5) Nowhere in the voat canary, user agreement or in the privacy policy is it stated that voat will not share your information. It is stated that they will not log your information in a personally identifiable way, but they make no assurances that other entities are not doing so.

but they make no assurances that other entities are not doing so.

Because there are not assurances to be had. You can't guarantee that, there's no way of knowing. You'd have to own all hardware and infrastructure between the client and server--all of them. They're doing the best they can given that fact. Apache/Nginx/IIS logs but no correlative data, basically--I assume.

Phuks' "Third-party disclosure" section of the privacy policy is satisfactory to me. They recognize that they might be required to share info under the law, and with those involved in the operation of the site, but otherwise commit to not selling or transferring personal info without advance notice.

I'm also satisfied with Phuks' canary, with the minor grammar nitpick that "to which we currently am an active contributor" should probably read "to which we are currently an active contributor."

Who cares, that place is dead to me. The only reason I hop over there is to manually delete my content, since I am "globally banned" from deleting it the regular way.

[–] X175B247 2 points (+2|-0)

Yeah same. I just wanted to clean up my account but they won't even let me do that. Posts older than like 1.4 yrs are archived and cannot be changed.

[–] chmod 0 points (+0|-0)

Same here. Dead.

So I have to go back and manually delete everything I've posted over the course of three years just to be able to delete my account...

[–] OeeThaGreat 0 points (+0|-0)

Yeah, I have a little less than three years of stuff to delete. I have already started slowly deleting stuff, but this is going to be a long process.

Here is what happened I think and you can say I am tin foil hat wearing freak all you want because it will not change my mind.

When Voat started (or I got there which wasn't much of a difference) it was just like phuks is now. Good group of people that were sick of the previous platform. Well shortly after we got there the element became very vocal in assuming control over certain aspects of the site.

Namely multiple subs. There was no limit in the beginning to how many we could have as moderator or owner. So they quickly made /conspiracy and a few others. If you look at the owners of said subs you will see a commonality of Voat and Reddit.

It has always been like this and no matter how often I brought it up it was ignored. When FPH came to Voat it was the day the floodgates opened and Voat was the dumping ground for Reddit rejected.

It was engineered that way and I am pretty sure that there was a back door agreement for something being money or otherwise because admin at the time was atko and he was a very very peace go with you type that was against the hateful aspect of the net.

Well if you look at what FPH spawned (slimgr) as it was one of their members at the time that made it.....who flocked to it in mass? Voat did and everyone used it. Well I know I wasn't the only one that noticed the bullshit the mods of FPH did.

They will deny up and fucking down they had nothing to do with slimgr, but it was one of them that even helped testing before the creators content was deleted. Also FPH required verification of users for flair which SHE was posted from, and then dietcokehead was leaked and many others.

They say they didn't have shit to do with it as mods, but I know that dietcokehead deleted hers soon as receipt was acknowledged.

Further on when coontown came the goal was never commonality as it was leadership. Robinwhite one of the mods at the time urged users to fufill the bullshit "project hatefuck" which was just a gathering of facts on pastebin they wanted posted anywhere and everywhere it could be.

The mods at the time were all behind it as were select users (all gone now) and the user base said no.....it was when the first take over happened. Waitdew modded antiracist and shit went crazy.

Fast forward to the sanegoatiswear shit. I had shown that there was indeed 5 separate people involved with the username. Toward the end of it all nothing was original.....it was all copy paste. The difference was always in the spacing and soon after I showed it was when sanegoatiswear began calling me a shill, faggot, tranny, and anything else they could.

The extended times admin let sane go without reprisal was getting fishy to me. Then put wiped all the alts.

Soon after that was when /niggers was overtaken again.

Put actually messaged me asking what I felt would be the best course of action. I said that cancel-cat-facts should have it and I get coontown. So that /niggers could be deleted after agreement of the subscribers.

That I wanted to take that black eye from Voat once and for all.

NEVER GOT A REPLY

CCF did get /niggers and he and I agreed that no matter what no one else was to ever be modded upon either whomevt got it.

Now you have the Voat boogyman of SBBH and little to no actual content worthwhile. It looks like TD over there on the front page. On top of all this many people including myself volunteered our time to help atko and puttitout so many times, yet as a userbase we were all told number times when referring to admin "we are working on it" and never told who.

It was never revealed.

Now the coins in the wallet issue.

Voat was a dumping ground all along I think and ment to house all the rejects Reddit didn't want. Which is why so many links directly to Reddit. They saw who was coming from Voat and would tag those usernames.

They banned gundeals, then let it come back? Lol just soft test of the system. We know that for over two years Reddit has been making profiles of users based on history and site cookies.

You think that isn't done now to eliminate dissident behavior? All it was and now it shows to many of us older goats. Look how many are here on phuks?

Anyways my two sense.

So, if I understand this correctly, a site admin couldn't find a few minutes to let the users know what happened, never got someone to be a back-up for him in case he had things to deal with, but had time to treat a few users horribly because they took umbrage with his handling of the site.

He shouldn't be in such a position until he can learn what it means to be a site admin.
