I hit the "Start Mining" button but nothing seems to be happening. I don't see any numbers going up or anything. What do?

Edit - Seems to be an issue in my browser (Chromium).

I did that and din't understand what it was telling me ... maybe I'm just dense. It kept counting up, and I kept scratching my head. What is that amazing thing anyway?

I'm assuming it's using your processor or GPU to mine XMR (a cryptocurrency like bitcoin) to help pay for the site. That's what it looks like to me. But in my case, nothing is counting up. It says "0.0 Hashes/s". Maybe has something to do with the Linux OS I'm using or my browser (Chromium)?

Edit - Yeah, must have been my browser. Tried it in Firefox and it's running.

@owlchemy, since you were also asking about it.

Yes, the miner uses your CPU to "mine" for XMR, which provides funds for the site. It's actually an ingenious method of paying, since it's entirely voluntary (unless you're shady), and if you're not using your CPU anyway (like just watching vids online), it's basically at no cost to you.

@pembo210 handles the mining stuff, I believe. I remember it was borked before, but it seems to be back up. I tried it for second on my work computer, and I was getting hashes (but the computer's quarantine manager or perhaps anti-virus software moved something to "quarantine" when it started. So it may be your anti-virus as well. However, I do not know if it has issues with the Chromium browser or other browsers. I believe it was working for me in Opera, and I know it works in Chrome.

Cool, so when I bounce away from Phuks to read oe whatever, I can have the mining thing running and be donating to you then? Great deal, assuming no one's stealing anything off my rig - LOL - and I'll kick that thing into gear when I think of it. Thanks for the info, great to know.

Sounds fair. I did it in FireFox, so you're prob right.

It's basically what @Phukin_Alduin said, you make your CPU work for us, mining Monero. We use that to pay for the phukin site.

By the way, it's way more efficient to mine with dedicated software instead of using the browser, and lastly the optimal number of threads is one for every 2MB of L3 cache on your processor.

Cool. I've had it running for a couple hours now while watching the news. Hope that helps.

It's counting how many "hashes" your computer has submitted. It's basically your computer doing a math problem that has a random number in it. Using your computer's internal random number generator, it runs the math with that random number and reports the results. After a billion results get submitted, we get paid for it, and put the money towards domains, hosting, and other hard costs (devs don't get paid). With the recent increase in crypto prices, we've mined enough for about a year's worth of hosting.

If you were to donate $usd money or buy something from the shop, paypal and other banks would get a piece of the money and could potentially lock our accounts if they didn't like what they saw on our site. With mining and direct cryptocoin donations, we can operate without them.
