I can understand why they'd do this, pressure from external sources and so on.

However, why should the medium itself be punished for the actions of one individual?

If someone gets up on a soapbox and yells "fire", you don't blame the soapbox, you blame the guy who said "fire". Shouldn't that principle be applied here?

So, wait... you can understand why you'd punish a lot of other someones who didn't commit a crime??? There's nothing to understand about it. It's wrong, ethically, morally, and in anything that wouldn't involve a computer also completely illegal.

Fuck Paypal. They have been deplatforming people since before it was cool to deplatform. They're the worst company to deal with if you have an issue and have to call them. That was a fucking nightmare when they froze one of my transactions for fraudulent behavior 5 years ago. I never used them again after that.

I'm surprized it took this long.

They just deplatformed InfoWars like 2 weeks ago and Gab yesterday. They can't be biased, can they? Alex Jones only was half joking when he said they would have to move to a snail mail catalog and purchase with money orders soon.

All the censorship and deplatforming are going to push people to the darknets and further radicalisation. 10 years ago only tin foil hat wearers used tor or VPNs, and now it is mainstream. I predict in 5 years it will be completely normal to use these darknet tools. At that point either totalitarian crackdowns on free speech are required or some kind of truce is reached whereby people grow up and let others say what they want without trying to destroy their livelihoods.

Did Gab break the law? If so they should be prosecuted.

Paypal have form for this, they did it to Wikileaks as well.

The guy that killed those people recently had a Gab account. Gab actually reached out to law enforcement first to help them with their investigation. PayPal thought that was a bannable offense to let the guy on there in the first place.
