Animatronic robots innately lack an ability to consent, she notes, allowing users to see women as mere toys and enable them to play out violent fantasies, perpetuating what activists call “rape culture”:

Rape is not an act of sexual passion. It is a violent crime.

Unless they're sophisticated enough to rival humans intelligence and emotions it's like saying that a dildo cannot give consent.

As a sidenote I want to point out that 31-57% of women report to have rape fantasies. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/psyched/200805/why-do-women-have-erotic-rape-fantasies

This does of course in no way excuse actual rape, but to pretend it's only men who have rape fantasies at the expense of all women is highly disingenuous.

Also, statistically the biggest rape cultures are still 3rd world and islamic countries and all the """experts""" don't seem to worry about that. Not a sophisticated society that has advanced robots.

This is ridiculous. They're so far away from actually making Androids that are convincing. It's like saying because kids abuse those robot dog/cat/other animal toys, they're of course going to cross reference that treatment to a living animal.

Granted there are people with mental illnesses that may actually do such a thing, but a normal person would not, and the person with the illness will likely do whatever they end up doing anyway.

I'm not pretending to be able to see the future on this once Androids are so good that you can't tell the difference.... But we're so far away from that as far as I can tell. And I'm sorry, but even when they are that good, as long as the person knows it's an Android, is still not the same. Just as you have to work for something to really appreciate it, a programmed experience isn't going to be as thrilling as the real thing.

on the basis that people often settle for "good enough" vs going for the quality experience, i expect that a lot of people will settle for less, especially if it is cheap enough.

sad as that is . . .
