If we read into it there are probably a few ways to identify devices. For me the line between personally identifying your device and personally identifying you is pretty blurred.

if you use a simple VPN even just Chrome's it negates the whole thing. still, it's fucking weird that the devs have access and actually act on your IP

I doubt just a VPN is enough to keep those in the know from identifying you.

It's up to the admins to decide on site policy - and if they want to come down hard on alts, I'm not necessarily against that. However, being able to reliably identify alts implies a lot of prying into what you might have assumed was hidden. I would rather they be upfront about the information they're collecting on users and the implications for user privacy.

I agree because that's a pretty big issue if they're logging IPs along the way
