Yea I think you're right about the carrier landing problems with the Corsair. If I remember correctly the landing gear had to be beefed up because of the violent stress put on planes when landing on carriers. It's pretty much a controlled crash.

The trick was to bank in a circle and keep the carrier deck in sight as long as possible during the landing approach. The nose on the Corsair made seeing anything - even on regular ground maneuvers, exceedingly difficult. The prop on 'em was like 13', so it was pretty high and visibility sucked.

It wasn't the perfect plane, but it sure was awesome. It's pretty much one of the most awesome things humans have ever devised. It's at least ten times more awesome than a yo-yo that lights up.
