As this is likely all lies and PR, does anyone on the ground know what's actually happening there? I'm at the other end of the I-5 corridor and I don't necessarily want them coming up here. There are plenty here already.

More edit: 1200 seems far too low, as well. SF is a huge city. That must be just the number they found, that didn't run away when the cops rolled in.

Jeff Kositsky, director of the homelessness department, said the result has been more referrals to health services for very sick campers, and more focused efforts to house people without duplication and inefficiency.
“I don’t want to say ‘Mission accomplished,’ and that we’re done, because our goal is to end permanent homelessness in the city and to put everyone into healthier, housed situations,” he said. “But I am proud of what we’ve done.”
Ha. Of course they are happy to funnel people into their government dependency machine.
