Putt finally decided to grace Voat with his presence in one of the threads:

Problem is I don't have the time manage Voat as a business. I'd think that just keeping it up and running (mostly) would satisfy users but people always want more from me.

It's like people think I have nothing but Voat in my life and I'm just flat out neglecting it.

I can't do enough to satisfy this community.

Plus I'm burned out big time. I'd invite anyone to put the amount of hours I've put into Voat over more than THREE YEARS, not ever getting paid for a single one, writing a massive ground breaking framework to give the community a new voice (BY MYSELF), only to be met with an onslaught of criticism and anger and then to treat Voat as a priority.

It's not a conspiracy. It's rather simple.

This does offer the more reasonable explanation: That Putt is basically burned out and apathetic because he doesn't want to do anything about, to, on, or with Voat, yet he also won't bring on anyone to help him (even though he pretends he'd like help)--probably because then he couldn't project the facade that he's some type of martyr because he does everything by himself. Sheesh man, responsibilities are hard! You know, coming on once a month to give updates...brutally difficult.

Putt doesn't care, but won't bring on people who do care. He doesn't even care enough to tell people what happened with the extended blackout. This guy is basically pissing on Atko's creation and the users who donated because he selfish. He claims he doesn't have time to do anything with Voat but also won't let anyone else help.

Edit* I'm an idiot and forgot the link: https://voat.co/v/whatever/2526948/12650943

Its a back and forth thing, but eventually I've settled on this explanation. Putt is soaking up the wallet and just tired of all the bullshit. He probably wanted a site more like Phuks to be honest, and he sees the influx of toxicity and most definitely some surveillance or sort of brigading going on. He's worked so hard just to get to be a hated figure in his own community.

But you bring up good points on his martyr complex. He absolutely wants to still hold that card, thats why he's not bringing anybody else on. Plus if he brought other people on he'd have to share that $6+million.

Also, wouldn't it be kind of impossible to ever trust anybody to bring on anyways?

One of the problems is that he never transferred subverses to people after Atko left. The subverse transfer sub stagnated and no one could grab communities and nurture them into something again.

He never figured out how to deal with brigades (and never once tried to enact any of the myriad ideas from the users), so small niche subs were easily killed off or subverted. I think one of the reasons is he was buddies with some of the brigadiers, so he wasn't going to hamstring them.

I think every site is going to have problems within its community as it grows. But once Atko left, no one tended the garden and it was left to become overgrown.
