Putt finally decided to grace Voat with his presence in one of the threads:

Problem is I don't have the time manage Voat as a business. I'd think that just keeping it up and running (mostly) would satisfy users but people always want more from me.

It's like people think I have nothing but Voat in my life and I'm just flat out neglecting it.

I can't do enough to satisfy this community.

Plus I'm burned out big time. I'd invite anyone to put the amount of hours I've put into Voat over more than THREE YEARS, not ever getting paid for a single one, writing a massive ground breaking framework to give the community a new voice (BY MYSELF), only to be met with an onslaught of criticism and anger and then to treat Voat as a priority.

It's not a conspiracy. It's rather simple.

This does offer the more reasonable explanation: That Putt is basically burned out and apathetic because he doesn't want to do anything about, to, on, or with Voat, yet he also won't bring on anyone to help him (even though he pretends he'd like help)--probably because then he couldn't project the facade that he's some type of martyr because he does everything by himself. Sheesh man, responsibilities are hard! You know, coming on once a month to give updates...brutally difficult.

Putt doesn't care, but won't bring on people who do care. He doesn't even care enough to tell people what happened with the extended blackout. This guy is basically pissing on Atko's creation and the users who donated because he selfish. He claims he doesn't have time to do anything with Voat but also won't let anyone else help.

It is hard to be sympathetic. I would not like to be in his position, but at the same time he has some responsibility for creating it.

I agree. Atko got burned out but was still very active in communication, and most certainly wasn't a dick to his users and donors like Puttitout has been. I never understood the hero worship for Atko either, but I respected his investment in the site and the way he left.

So, he had the time to write a haiku, make some rude comments to me and others, now write a 5 paragraph post today but still refuses to address the outage, the canary, or the financial situation. I'm glad I left.

I think it's kind of intentional at this point. I honestly think he's doing everything he can to piss off most of the userbase so they leave and then he and his buddies can have the run of the place. It seems to be a gigantic passive aggressive move in which he can clean house without having to do anything.

I think voat was long ago served with some sort of warrant, and when that happened putt realized that the userbase would never trust him again since he couldn't dispel the concerns. This really only left him with the option to cut his losses, letting voat wither and die so he can liquidate the bitcoin without accusations of scamming being an issue.

I personally believe putt is being genuine, despite not telling the whole story. I think he really is burnt out, frustrated, busy, and otherwise out of options. I think he really does care for voat, but can still see a sinking ship for what it is.

I don't hold anything against putt assuming that they really were served. One way or another voat is dead to me, but I'll remember it fondly.

I'll continue to lurk as long as it's up, as some users are still posting decent news articles. As for Putt, it always seemed to me that he liked the "prestige" of being the admin, but didn't want the actual responsibility of being the admin.

Someone posted "the canary not being posted is exactly how it's supposed to work". I thought the canary proves a site hasn't been served a warrant or information request. Eh?

Did you ever figure out why you were globally banned from deleting your account?

[–] chmod 0 points (+0|-0)

The theory is that I posted to subs a long time ago that were later disabled. Deleting my account would lead to a lot of NULL pointers in the database.

Its a back and forth thing, but eventually I've settled on this explanation. Putt is soaking up the wallet and just tired of all the bullshit. He probably wanted a site more like Phuks to be honest, and he sees the influx of toxicity and most definitely some surveillance or sort of brigading going on. He's worked so hard just to get to be a hated figure in his own community.

But you bring up good points on his martyr complex. He absolutely wants to still hold that card, thats why he's not bringing anybody else on. Plus if he brought other people on he'd have to share that $6+million.

Also, wouldn't it be kind of impossible to ever trust anybody to bring on anyways?

That wallet is not Voat's wallet, it's a coinbase one. Check the comments on the post.

One of the problems is that he never transferred subverses to people after Atko left. The subverse transfer sub stagnated and no one could grab communities and nurture them into something again.

He never figured out how to deal with brigades (and never once tried to enact any of the myriad ideas from the users), so small niche subs were easily killed off or subverted. I think one of the reasons is he was buddies with some of the brigadiers, so he wasn't going to hamstring them.

I think every site is going to have problems within its community as it grows. But once Atko left, no one tended the garden and it was left to become overgrown.

It's like people think .. I'm just flat out neglecting it.

Because he is. I understand that he doesn't have the time. But the site is being neglected.

I can't do enough to satisfy this community.

Nope. So why doesn't he get help?
Many users would help him. Even I offered at one time.
That excuse does not fly. Putt doesn't need to do anything other than appoint some help.

Plus I'm burned out big time.

Fair enough. I fully understand and relate.
So take a break, after appointing some new admins.

Only one person to blame

Putt is tired. He has given a metric fuck ton to that community and gotten a bunch of shit for it from a lot of people, human beings tend to more easily focus on the negative rather than positive. So even with the admittedly large amount of support he gets he probably sees the negative more. Its a sad state but you just have to have a thick skin in order to do really much of anything online. It would appear even if he had one the attacks have managed to get through.

Do you have a link to this, please?

[–] Dudicles [OP] 2 points (+2|-0)

Sorry, I'm an idiot and forgot. I edited the post to include the link.

[–] COFfeebreak 1 points (+1|-0)

Thanks. If you have a horse in one hand you can't make him a different color...or something like that.

Why does anyone care? I haven't cared since I realized he was trying to solo-admin.

[–] seanking2919 0 points (+0|-0)

Wow. I'm really glad I didn't join Voat. If Putt doesn't care enough to be committed to keeping up Voat, why should I join?

The fact that the store is shut down kind of puts the writing on the wall there. The admin wants it to end.
