If I'm feeling a bit sluggish, and end up sleeping through the day, I feel like shite the entire day.

It's possible that if you have an inconsistent sleep schedule that you are going against your natural circadian rhythm, which can in theory throw you off like that. I know I have felt similar at times where I feel like shit if I oversleep, stay in bed too long, go to sleep/wake on an irregular basis, etc.
