I have found that this can be a divisive topic.

I do not pay for any non-physical content, that I can think of. I have occasionally given money to content creators directly, rather than pay for something. In total, I have probably pirated tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of content. I have only ever bought one digital album, and lost it after about 2 weeks after it disappeared from my iTunes, who then refused to give me the album again because it was a limited edition and they "didn't have it anymore". They didn't give me a refund.

I will download and use whatever I am interested in.
If they provide a good product at a reasonable price, then I do pay for it. Otherwise I don't.

I'm an amateur developer myself, so I want to see the programmers and artists get paid. But if someone is trying to rip me off, I have no problems turning the tables on them. If it wasn't for piracy, the big outfits would be gouging us much harder than they do. Having piracy as an alternative turns it into a buyers market and forces the software companies to be fair, or die.

I do the same thing with movies. I got ripped off by movie studios that can make trailers for garbage look good, too many times. Now I pirate the movies, then buy them later if they deliver on what was promised. I have a large collection of unopened dvds. I have no use for the disks since I prefer to watch copies from my computer, but I do want to support the creators that don't fuck us.

In the case of music, unless it's an indie band I won't buy the albums. The bands don't get much of that money and I do not feel right about supporting that vile industry. But I do make a point of going to concerts or buying band related paraphernalia. The artists usually get a significantly larger share of the profit from those.

I do this too. If bands are making more money from touring than they are selling albums, they're going to tour a lot more.

I also apply the same logic to buying albums. The huge vinyl boom that started around 2010-11 has meant that basically every punk band is releasing vinyl again, so I buy the vinyl. There is a model I quite like that has been adopted by a few labels too. They make all of the digital downloads free - the actual mp3 files, not some iTunes bullshit - and then they sell various physical copies at a minimum price and give the option to buy it for more than that price.
