Edit: a middle ground would be to enable it only on desktop and have light theme by default on phones
My main computer deletes cookies as soon as the tab is closed so I have to log in new every visit on it. Other devices stay logged in.

Well, if most of the people vote to have dark as default I could add an url parameter (?theme=light maybe?) that will force light theme and create the cookie, you could then save it as a bookmark (https://phuks.co?theme=light instead of just phuks.co) so you don't have to go through a dark login page

Except my browser deletes cookies when I close the tab.
I don't know how I feel about the idea of a special url to get what a lot of the rest of the internet considers default ( "light theme").

Hmm, that's a point. Do you browse Phuks logged out a lot? I haven't had to log in for a year now I think.
If you use many devices or incognito mode I guess the dark mode option could be persisted on the account level instead of per-browser
