I seriously think social media and all the crap that goes with it plays a major role.

I agree, and I think the farcical appearance of happiness that social media presents is definitely playing into it.

That and the endless trolling that many can't handle. It used to be you shared something with a couple of friends and life went on ... now they share online and a zillion idiots out for fun chime in. Some take that crap seriously.

I dont think suicide is something to take lightly.

It could be anything. Un-diagnosed mental illness, abuse, loneliness, and just plain stupidity. Theres alot of factors that play into it.

I dont think its suddenly become a global epidemic, I just think people are becoming more aware and want to fight or find out the underlying cause, which is usually due to some form of underlying mental health issue.

just my opinion from personal experience.

**Edited for typos. New phone. still getting used to it. apologies.

Gratification, responsibility, and upbringing/family support.

As someone who has had suicidal episodes, it's hard to explain what it's like to be at that point. Obviously mine have never made it to the final point but sitting on that edge is something I wouldn't wish for anyone. It is hands down the darkest place my mind has taken me and at that point there is nothing more than a desire to end the pain (real or perceived). Having someone there to just listen has been the most helpful when I've been there.

As other causes of death fall and healthcare improves suicide rises. I'm also inclined to think increased population density has something to do with it too.
