I'm curious why the pic is still there somewhere even though the source is gone... is a thumbnail saved on the forum?

This. Phuks has a separate domain (and server?) just for this purpose, check the link @PMYA posted there.

I did, and upvoted... just wondering if those could replace the pics in the future now... wouldn't that be a good insurance?

The thumbnails would not make good replacements, they're severely shrunken versions of the source images and would not take well to being blown up. They're shrunken to conserve disk space. It takes an image, that could be in the tens of KB to into the MBs somewhere down to like... 10KB.

You know the site is overriding the middle click, right? That's bad juju.

Edit: also, having root of a site just error like that is a good way to get it instablocked by many (paranoid) people.

Could you elaborate? I'm not sure what you mean.

If, for any reason, I see a domain where root doesn't really display much of anything or just errors (like going here returns a 403), I just block them wholesale. I figure if it's an important domain, it should have something at root.

Or do you mean the click hijacking? So in modern browsers, if you middle click a link, it opens in a new tab. The expando function is toggling instead of treating it like a link. It even fires on a right click.
