Why are you here?

I'm here because places like this give me a fun social aspect to my life that I don't normally get elsewhere.

What I mean is that most places on the internet are sterile. The webpage is just a cold wall of text, with some buttons to click and maybe a few interesting things to look at.

But when I come here, every piece of text on the page corresponds to a real person. I can click on a button, and interact with somebody who will respond. I like it. It touches on my dopamine receptors in that positive-feedback loop we are all striving to find.

What about you?

I'm here because I'm looking for a place to find news, conversation, knowledge without being exposed to any extreme politics or censorship. I just want to be able to interact with people who are mature, act like they have half a brain, and are willing to discuss anything without screeching or hiking up a nazi/israel/US/Russian/Whatever flag. I know that these positions exist but I don't have a particular need to be exposed to them although I am certainly willing to hear news, etc regarding those topics so long as the reaction to said news isn't radicalized. You know, like sitting in a coffee shop and honestly talking without an agenda about any topic whatsoever. Learning, sharing, debate, disagreement without it turning into a "I hate you and everything you stand for" screamfest or trying to prove someone else wrong so that the other person can be right. Debate for the sake of knowledge, not arguments for the sake of arguing. I've seen enough of the nonsense argument tactics and, yes, I can smell them from a mile away and have no problem ending the discussion on a dime if that's where it's heading. I have more important things to do in my life than to argue, take radical sides, and so on.

All the reasons you stated and habit.

It's become a habit to browse and contribute to forums. On Voat the habit became unhealthy because the content slowly became more negative. Here it's still pretty neutral and easy going. There are also a lot fewer post and users which makes my online time less. This translates into more time off the internet. Moving to phuks as been an all around positive experience.

Ha! No, but honestly, I'd like to think I'm not a complete jerk and decided to move to a more positive hangout.

every piece of text on the page corresponds to a real person

That's what appeals to me also. It's a virtual village, but the villagers are real people.
Phuks specifically does this well due to it's small size. Interactions are not disposable since you will likely encounter that user again.
