The north and south borders can't accurately be compared. In the south the US is trying to keep people out. In the north they are trying to keep people in. About the only illegal thing that crosses south is weed.
Illegal immigrants, gun smugglers, and hard drugs all cross north.

I don't think many people have an issue with legal, regular immigration.
It seems to be the ones that bypass the requirements by being a 'refugee' or just crossing illegally, that are getting people upset.
It doesn't really matter how stringent the process is when it is easy to bypass.

the current threat from the north may not be the same but its canada that lets in all the refugees. it takes 2 years from applications to landing in the US as a refugee, my italian friend managed it in just over a year. i don't know why people seem to think its so easy to get in as a refugee.

Recently many have been using BS refugee or asylum applications to get into the US. They eventually get rejected by the US system, but by then the immigrant has already moved to a sanctuary, or run the border into Canada.
Getting into the US, if you don't care about laws, or are willing to manipulate them, is very simple and is big business.

i prefer a harder line internationally than we had under obama, though sometimes his rhetoric that affects other countries' affairs goes too far. i too agree with the whole jerusalem thing, though.
i view most healthcare as a more fundamental human right than social security and certain welfare and tax credits which i view as something that should be handled totally or significantly more by the private sector & individual.
i think a physical wall is the dumbest possible way to secure the mexican border (and the canadian border is way more porous). for a fraction of the price, the government could throw up a few satellites or drones to track any border crossing and have additional small outposts for ICE or local law enforcement so they can scoop up anyone under the satellite or drone's guidance. a wall is just going to delay anyone a minute. people on the other site like to point out that it works for israel but israel is a small, densly populated country with conscription so effectively guarding walls is not such a strain. you guard deserts though the skies as has been proven repeatedly.
immigration wasn't in as sorry a state as trump liked to say. we have a very stringent immigration process compared to most places. if you have any friends who immigrated since 9/11 they can probably attest to it. we have an insanely low number of terrorist attacks considering we are pretty much the devil to like 3/4 of the world.
i like that he cut taxes but i think it was an awful deal for the average american. corporate tax rates should have been trimmed and if possible give a window to bring overseas cash and assets to the US tax free (which would have pissed off china rather than europe). the tax breaks on the rich shouldn't have happened, i disagree with tax credits for kids, and the income tax cut should really have been permanent.
i'm not a fan of his hissyfits that he throws, very unpresidential behavior, though in fairness he's throwing hissyfits at people throwing hissyfits at him so i can't fault him too much there.
i have a hard time believing that a new yorker born with a silver spoon in his mouth knows how to improve the average american's situation. i expect the economy will continue to grow in his term and that he will continue to play a significant role in that but with the corporate and rich tax breaks, we have 3-7 years of trickledown economics (ie offshore hoarding) to look forward to.
i don't like how involved his kids are. i'm still gunshy from the last guy who thought that because his dad was president, he could do it too.
i think its funny that so far he has spun his tires exactly as hard as obama did to start.
overall, though, he's not a terrible president. i mean, i'm not confident i will ever see a president i'm fully proud of but he's probably better than hillary would have been. i stand by my third party vote. i came up with more reasons i dislike him than i expected, i tried to keep to the question and state his flaws in my eyes but there are plenty positives to him too, i know.
