Equally surprised they excavated the site and allowed media to cover it.

This is true. The Chinese aren't very forthcoming with their archaeological sites. Like the first emperor tomb where they refuse to open it.

Even more appropriately, their other pyramids seem to be off limits to anyone but selectively mute farmers.
