There is truth to that. The problem is though that they rarely end up in museums, but in private collections never to be seen again. Yet even that may be better than being destroyed in the Muslim world, I guess.

I wonder if the artifacts were better off in the hands of the smugglers. I don't, and never would support the theft of historic items, but I do wonder if the artifacts would be better cared for if they were smuggled out and sold to a museum in another part of the world.
Muslim nations do not have a good record for preserving antiquitys. One could argue that they are the biggest threat.
