This is a short pencil test/post production of the scene by james baxter

and the finished result is this right here (starts at 2:19 if it glitches for you)

as an artist who is self taught in animation this is realllly good. like, really good. alot of the people that are in the art industry right now that watch this show or maybe just keep up with Baxter, really, really enjoy this scene. i think i might find it so interesting because as a child i watched old Disney films like Cinderella, Pocahontas, beauty and the beast and never gave a second thought about the animation process and who was behind it so to get my own modern taste of it and to find out who did it i am definitely now a fan of than mans work. it also makes me realize animation on 1's is really, really something. after watching a couple baxter reels and jumping into some anime makes anime feel like a goddamn powerpoint lmao

I keep hearing about this series finale and about how it's so good. I never followed the show, just caught an episode here and there. It never really struck me as much, but is it really a profound must-watch?

I don't know much about the animation side of it. It looked more impressive in the first clip because you got to see the transition, that's a lot of frames and the rotation means you really have to nail the transition from two to one character. The final product kind of glossed it over, which probably worked better to convey what happened but stole from some of the brilliance of the animation.

i remember hating steven universe upon seeing the first episode but a few years later i jumped into the 5th season and fell in love with it mostly because all of the action is ramping up and less townie episodes. i started from the 5th season and just watched all the theory videos and summary-esque videos to summarize the other seasons.

maybe the background may win you over because man that on its own is just beautiful.

hm? what did you mean by glossed over? do you think the smooth animation took too much away from what the scene tried to convey? if so i think it helped the scene alot. smoother frames means the audience can see more 'detail' of whats going on in the ainmation and it gives the animator more time to put in little quirky movements that that we can pick up.

I mean in the final cut Steven glowed pink instead of maintaining the character detail, he was more or less a glowing silhouette. I could have worded that better.

oh. maybe the glowing just lasted too long? but the glowing always occurs when there is a fusion happening so steven was fusing with his pure diamond form
