Solidarity is a normal reaction to real or perceived hostility. In history the social pressure to assimilate resulted in immigrant collectivism in order to support each other; Chinatowns, little Italy and a myriad other ethnic enclaves formed partly because of this pressure.

If they apply for refugee asylum, which may not even be possible since direct applications are not accepted only referrals from UN refugee camps. Otherwise they must apply through the immigration procedure, where their record will be considered against them. If you are concerned about the cost of the immigration procedure I suggest you look at the fee schedule.
If, after being apprehended, their refugee application is vetted and approved, again, not likely since direct refugee applications are not accepted and in consideration of their illegal entry. And refugees have citizen sponsors to support them.
What is your concern? If they overstayed their visa that will count against them during the immigration evaluation.
You are mixing up refugees and immigrants. There are separate processes for each with their own restrictions.
