It’s very loosely based of ed gein. A serial killer and grave robber from WISCONSIN(didn’t even use a chainsaw). I understand outdiders but I’ve encountered so many people even here in Texas who believe it’s a true story from my friends to my teachers. Go out and ask and you’ll be suprised at how well marketing is

At least by the Hollywood definition of the word.
I don't think it's a good use of your time trying to reason with people who get their news from horror movies.
