It's kind of sad that they don't mention the single most effective way to prevent identity theft is literally free and is a service Experian even offers - freeze your credit records. I have my records frozen with Experian, Transunion and whatever that third one is and whenever I open any new banking, credit or loan account I just unfreeze all 3 for a week then they automatically re-freeze. I even verified it works last time I bought a car by only unfreezing 2/3 of the creditors and they stopped the transaction.
Everyone should do this and not spend money on "identity theft protection" services and you're 99% covered
