I had hoped he'd go ahead and join the LP but the infighting amongst Libertarians is infamous. It would be a pretty big deal for the LP if they could get him to join while still a Congressman.

The impeach Trump stuff really turns me off on him. If was doing this only because of belief in small government I could respect it.

Supposedly Amash is one of the few members of Congress to have actually read the entire Mueller report. He also pointed out specific incidents in the report that he saw as obstruction of justice (he was an attorney before he got into politics).

I think it's a risky move he's making since Michigan is a "straight ticket" state but I admire that he is willing to take that risk. I think there might be other GOP Congressmen who will consider leaving the party and wouldn't be shocked if Massie quit the GOP if Trump endorses a primary challenger to him.

Do you know of a source that details Amash's reasons for the impeachment? Even Nancy P. doesn't support it, and how do you obstruct justice for a crime that didn't happen?

It seems petty and politically driven.

Massie...

He also was among a group of seven members who rejected a bill guaranteeing back pay for federal workers hit by the government shutdown this year.

Sounds like my kind of guy. I'll admit I don't know much about him.

I think it would be good for ACTUAL conservatives to branch off the GOP, especially if they are libertarians. This country really needs an effective libertarian party. I've always said that libertarians need to start from the ground up, meaning holding lower level offices on the state level and as congressmen. You only seem to hear about them when they run for president, which is pie in the sky considering they can't even win a governorship.

Don't usually like Breitbart but this article has the direct tweets from Amash laying out his reasons for supporting impeachment. Amash is probably one of the most transparent Congressmen currently in office. He always gives his reasons for his votes and such.

Addendum: the LP has been focusing on local races but they also use the bigger races to try and gain ballot access. Usually ballot access is tied to 3-5% of the presidential vote so that's why they seem the most visible for those races. The biggest problem with the LP is libertarians, we tend to be the most contentious when we are around other libertarians and it becomes a pissing contest. It's quite a bit like herding cats.
