Reuters reported about the allegations but the article threw some suspicions on the BuzzFeed article by saying Reuters sources didn't know anything about it. Reuters is one of the few MSM sources I consider to be fairly trustworthy while BuzzFeed will always be click-bait gossip in my eyes.

I was actually waiting for a "good source" confirmation when i saw this initially, as buzzfeed is absolutely not a trustworthy newssource. The reuters article was very sceptical to this story indeed, AP had it spot on and didnt even run the story.

I am very surprised the special council decided to make this statement though, as there are so many rumors/stories going around and they rarely react to any.

Been reading a bit on it today and the general thought is they had congress and senators asking for information on it so they thought they had to make a statement to clarify things before it all blew up into something more official(impeachment) based on something that might not have been there.

Seems like it was the same Democrats who were already pushing for impeachment that grabbed onto the article as proof that they are justified. They're so desperately wanting to impeach him that they're jumping at any semblance of wrongdoing regardless of if it is true or not.
