“A grand canyon has opened up in our world,” Fry said. On one side is the new right, promoting a bizarre mixture of Christianity and libertarianism; on the other, the “illiberal liberals”, obsessed with identity politics and complaining about things like cultural appropriation. These tiny factions war above, while the rest of us watch, aghast, from the chasm below. “Is this what is meant by the fine art of disagreement?” Fry asked. “A plague on both their houses.”

This.

MFW Donald Trump is a 90s Democrat and has more in common w/ JFK than anyone on the left these days... Just kinda funny. Give me a Jim Webb and I'll vote for him. The era of democrats w/ sensible positions on immigration or anything really is over.

Unfortunately the Republicans are the same way. All of them want the status quo, because that's why they're in office. Trump was elected because the status quo is Swampville, and the old Republicans are scared as hell

Indeed. Folks that tow the party line don't realize a 3rd party infiltrated their ranks. Funny how democrats clamped down to make sure there isn't another true 3rd party like Bernie Sanders after rigging the primary.
